Acoustic ceiling panels

What Are Acoustic Ceiling Tiles?

Acoustic ceiling tiles are sound-absorbing tiles, usually 595 × 595 mm or 595 × 1195 mm, that sit in a suspended T-grid ceiling and absorb airborne sound instead of reflecting it back into the room. They work like ceiling-mounted acoustic panels: sound passes through the perforated or porous face, enters an absorptive layer (acoustic fleece, mineral wool or PET fibre) and loses energy as heat. Because the ceiling is usually the largest uninterrupted surface in an office or hall, swapping plain gypsum or PVC tiles for acoustic ceiling tiles is one of the fastest ways to cut echo.

Performance is measured by the Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC), tested under ASTM C423 or ISO 354 on a scale from 0.0 to 1.0, as defined in the ASTM C423 sound absorption standard. A tile rated NRC 0.90 absorbs roughly 90 percent of the sound energy that reaches it. Our PerfoAudile™ perforated ceiling tile reaches NRC 0.95 with backing.

StepAction
1Survey the space and existing ceiling (T-grid, concealed grid or open slab)
2Select tile type, NRC and finish for the room use and fire requirement
3Install or check the 15/24 mm T-grid at the right height with a laser level
4Lay in or clip in tiles; add fleece or mineral wool backing for perforated tiles
5Suspend baffles or clouds on cables or T-rails where needed
6Align tiles, check edges and finish, then do a final acoustic check

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do acoustic ceiling tiles actually reduce office echo?

Yes. Replacing plain gypsum or PVC tiles with acoustic ceiling tiles rated NRC 0.85 or higher noticeably cuts echo and improves speech clarity in offices and meeting rooms.

What NRC rating is good for acoustic ceiling tiles in a conference room?

NRC 0.85 to 0.90 is considered strong for most meeting rooms.

Can acoustic ceiling tiles replace my existing false ceiling tiles?

Yes. Our tiles are made in 595 × 595 mm and 595 × 1195 mm sizes, so they drop straight into standard 15/24 mm T-grid ceilings without changing the grid.

Do perforated ceiling tiles need a backing material?

Yes. Perforated tiles need acoustic fleece or mineral wool backing for real absorption. PerfoAudile™ tiles reach NRC 0.95 with backing.

Are acoustic ceiling tiles fire safe for commercial buildings?

Yes. PerfoAudile™ tiles are rated Class 1 as per BS 476 (Part 7), and our mineral fibre and metal tiles are available in Class A ratings for commercial fire codes.

What is the difference between soundproofing and acoustic ceiling tiles?

Soundproofing blocks sound passing between rooms. Acoustic ceiling tiles absorb sound inside a room to reduce echo and reverberation.

How many acoustic ceiling tiles do I need for a meeting room?

For most meeting rooms, treating 40 to 60 percent of the ceiling with tiles rated NRC 0.85 or higher is a good starting point. An acoustic survey gives the exact quantity.

Which acoustic ceiling tile is the lightest?

PerfoAudile™ AirLite (2.74 kg/m²) and FeatherLight (under 4 kg/m²) are our lightest tiles, ideal where ceiling load is a concern.

Which ceiling tile is best for humid or high-traffic areas?

Metal and Sleek (cement fibre) tiles are moisture, sag and fire resistant, making them ideal for airports, metro stations, hospitals and labs.

Can acoustic ceiling tiles be customised?

Yes. Sizes, perforation size and pattern, edge profile and finishes such as natural wood veneer or melamine can be customised for your project.
